Is good oral hygiene the number one way to ensure that your overall health is good as well? It is one of the ways. Good diet, proper hygiene, exercise, and regular checkups all play a part.
What is the number one way to ensure that you are keeping good oral hygiene? Brushing, flossing, and regular dental exams.
How often should people get their teeth cleaned by a dentist? Once or twice a year, depending on the person.
Are you aware of any diseases that can occur if proper oral hygiene is not practiced? Gingivitis, and periodontitis are direct results of poor oral hygiene. Abscessed teeth may occur. Poor oral hygiene plays a part in other conditions such as diabetes.
What daily activities should someone do to keep their mouth healthy and clean? Brush, floss, proper diet.
As a dentist what is the most common problem that you find in your patients? Decay of the teeth due to improper hygiene, and a diet heavy in sugar.

- Reflection: I asked Dr. Thorton what school he went to because this gives me an idea where I would like to go to college. Dentistry has definitely opened up as a career I would like to be in and this college is somewhere I would like to be.

- Reflection: He has been practicing dentistry for 42 years meaning he knows his stuff. He has seen a lot during this time, and he would be very well qualified to answer my questions.

- Reflection: I am going to put this in my research as one of my main topics. It’s interesting to see that the number one reason people go into the office is tooth decay, which is caused by excessive sugar eating and improper care of the teeth.
